Welcome to Mumbai

It has been about five weeks moving into Mumbai. A very fascinating city indeed! A city that would seem like a mad city to many. Astonishingly,I found this city to be very welcoming and very non intrusive. Probably we got liberated from an intrusive Kerala :). We struggled a bit for our accomodation with the astronomical rents. Somehow, some of those organisational policies came to the rescue.

We came and at the end of the first week came some "thod phod" the slang for violence in this part of the world. It was some handsome bloke who was bored with no action wanting some action and he set off a trigger that indicated that he wanted almost 1/2 of the city to move to their own states.

After that I was trying to find my way through the traffic ..Neither did I have any idea of the roads nor did I have the skill of driving close. While driving we share so much of proximity that we can tell you if someone else's car is clean inside or not. That is my new found hobby along with cleaning my own car everyday, clearing it of bird droppings every day. Looks like the birds here have fantastic digestive system. No matter, which part of Mumbai, you can be sure to have your car decorated.

As I was mulling over these it was a good four weeks into the adventure. I just finished another day of seeing unclean car interiors. I just got in home to understand that there was a gruesome act being carried out in some parts of the city. That was the famous terrorist attack of 26th November 2008. It left a permanent scar in the minds of people. But then, who can take away the charm of this city. To us especially it meant a lot because the Gateway and Taj was one of our destinations in the previous weekend and we rode the horse cart around Taj!

Getting back home is great fun. My son is ready to share all the fun he has had. For a guy all of five years, having had to write or appear for 19 papers in his Senior KG examination back in Coimbatore, he was having a great time. He got a school that has no exams. Sometimes I am scared of his future. But when I look around and at myself, with all the education , we are still learning :). So I relax.

Susan, my better half is ready with her stories. Her new discovery of the who is next door, her tryst with the security of the housing society who tried to fleece some money and her enduring battle with the Kachadawali who wanted 2oo bucks every month!! She is having a great time. She is a fitness freak and spiritual too :) . She has a church and a jogging park nearby. For a lady who had 13 gruelling years of work with a bank spending almost 14 hours in the bank, this is truly a holiday.

To add to my amusement, I have a bunch of lively HR team members who ensures that there is never a dull moment. In their own innocent ways, they try and create meaning in everything they do. My next target is grooming them and for sometime now, enjoying the ambience of this city will take a back seat except for the weekends.

I sign off till the next update.
