Today, as I am undergoing the therapy, the pain of the treatment has come down and my curious mind keeps asking the doctor several questions and he keeps anwering them. The day began when I talked to him about my upper body being tilted towards one side and also the slight hunch that was getting more and more prominent. The reason was again due the inability of the spine and muscles to hold the body intact. I had noticed this several years ago and attributed this to my playing badminton and being right handed , I assumed that the right side would be more developled and hence heavier.
The next topic of discussion was on "paralysis" . It refers to a physical condition of immobility arising out of damage to certain portion of the brain due to a stroke. What he revealed is more interesting. There is again not a single patient who has been treated by this humble doctor has gone back without gaining mobility..again my mind goes to my native place where day in and day out in some house or the other, we hear the groan of a patient paralysed for life..He even talked about a Managing Director of a SME suffering from Parkinson's syndrome who is back in action filling in a full fledged five day week in office and is in his 70's!!
The discussion pauses and my mind then meanders to our life style of shopping malls and excessive indulgence in a display of opulence..shopping that used to end in Rs. 1000-1500 goes up to 2000-3000..noodles, pepsi, lays, chocolates, ice creams, etc. Each of which on a closer look conveys the pretended ignorance of mankind.
We then talk of another shopping... shopping for medicines. The slightest of ailment to our children or loved ones, will catapult us to a allopathic physician and then bulk of medicines. Medicines are important..but not at the slightest of appearance of a cold or fever..When we load these medicines on to our loved ones, we are making sure of short cut solutions and not really attempting to eliminate the root cause. The side effects of these medicines cannot be discounted. Getting closer to nature and refraining from the indulgences of modern life will truly hold the recipe for a healthy and beautiful living.
I realise that the relationship emerging is not that of a doctor and patient, but a mentor-mentee and a lot of counselling through narration of life experiences. This is something of a life time learning of my body, its function and its uses and abuses..I definitely see myself back in action and I also see a six pack ( a bet which I lost with my boss in Jan 2008) emerging in Jan 2009. It is late by a year...but I am that much more wiser and healthier..Have a great day!
